The Ecoislands accord sets out our sustainable goals, we invite other islands and regions to sign the accord and join us on our journey.
Our commitment to sustainability:
We the undersigned do hereby commit our communities to the ambitious targets of becoming renewable energy self-sufficient by 2020 and sustainable by 2030. We define sustainability as the point at which our community’s ecological footprint is no bigger than the land area that we occupy.
In order to turn this vision into reality we agree to:
- Set ambitious targets to move us towards our goal.
- Use agreed mechanisms to measure progress.
- Report regularly on our measured progress.
- Share knowledge and information with other regions.
- Collaborate on technology and innovation.
- Be exemplars of sustainable living wherever we can.
- Develop sustainability “showcases” to develop understanding.
- Promote the Ecoislands Vision wherever we can.
- Meet annually at the Global Summit to share and celebrate our success.
- Become beacons of sustainability to the rest of the world.
