Jeju Smart Grid Envision Center

Part of the vision for the Ecoislands flagship Island, the Isle of Wight is an Ecocentre to provide a very visual way to understand sustainability and the technology Ecoislands is using for the Greenprint. Technology like Smart Grids, Electric Vehicles and
home energy management systems can be daunting to many people, and so having a dedicated place where they can see the technology, push the buttons and see how it works really helps overcome this fear. The Ecocentre will also help those who struggle to understand how new technology can help with sustainability as this can sometimes seem like a contradiction.
Whilst visiting Jeju, David visited the ‘Jeju Smart Grid Envision Centre’ which is something along the lines of the Ecocentre planned for the Isle of Wight. The Envision Centre was built to showcase the smart grid as a place to learn about smart grids and experience ‘smart’ lifestyle.
The center is divided into different sections which are as follows:
- POSCO Consortium Renewables experience hall – experience a using new and renewable energy
- KEPCO experience hall – Korea’s smart grid and the Jeju smart grid test bed
- LG Live green – eco-friendly services, smart home appliances and smart meters
- SK/HHI Smart grid experience hall – smart home energy management, energy trading and renewable village
- Experience electric vehicles – Test drive and experience electric vehicles
- GS Caltex / KT experience hall - Services that integrate electricity, broadcasting and telecommunications
David found his time visiting the Envision Center inspiring and he now has great hope for the Ecoislands first Ecocentre.
